music & lyrics by Nancy Harrow
book by Nancy Harrow & Will Pomerantz
St. Paul's original "IT" couple — F. Scott Fitzgerald and his muse Zelda — were glittering emblems of the Jazz Age, living a life filled with parties, fashion, and tabloid headlines. This new jazz musical, which premiered Off-Broadway, tells the tale of these storied lovers, capturing both the joy of their romance and their struggles for artistic identity and fame. From the world of literature to the glamor of Hollywood, the lives of Zelda and Scott reflected the era during which they lived: highs and lows, boom and bust, a thrilling rise and a devastating crash.
"The only thing you have to think about is that we are moving, fast, as fast as possible. To the top of the Eiffel Tower, the top of the world."
– F. Scott Fitzgerald
The story of Scott and Zelda — St. Paul's own "beautiful fools" — certainly had it all: passion, envy, beauty, and celebrity. Like many of today's front-page couples, Scott and Zelda's place in the public eye simultaneously bound them together and tore them apart. This musical which premiered in New York in 2010 will have its regional premiere on History Theatre's stage in Fitzgerald's hometown.
