Website Accessibility

History Theatre wants everyone to be able to use this website — including people who use screen readers, keyboard navigation, magnification, or captions. We built this site with that goal from the start, and we aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2, Level AA.

What we’ve done

  • Performance calendars, ticket prices, and seating information are real text, not pictures of text — screen readers can read every date, time, and price, including which performances are ASL-interpreted, audio-described, or open-captioned.
  • The whole site works with a keyboard alone, with visible focus indicators. Moving content (like the home page slideshow) can be paused and respects your device’s reduced-motion setting.
  • Colors throughout the site meet contrast standards, and images carry written descriptions.

What we’re still working on

  • Some older play guides and playbills are PDF files that predate this site and are not yet fully accessible. We’re working to fix the most-used ones, and new guides are published as regular web pages.
  • Buying a ticket online happens on our ticketing partners’ websites, which we don’t control. If any part of that is difficult, the box office will happily handle your order by phone at 651-292-4323, or in person.

Tell us what’s not working

If anything on this site is hard for you to use, we genuinely want to know. Call the box office at 651-292-4323 or email boxofc@historytheatre.com, and tell us what happened and what browser or assistive technology you were using. We’ll do our best to fix it and to get you what you needed in the meantime.

For accessibility at the theater itself — wheelchair seating, hearing enhancement, ASL-interpreted and open-captioned performances — see Accessibility at History Theatre.
